About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Cities (AIFSC) is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed open access journal dedicated to advancing research and innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence, engineering, and sustainable urban development.
The journal addresses critical challenges facing modern cities - from climate change and resource management to mobility, infrastructure, and data governance - and explores how intelligent systems can enable more resilient, efficient, and inclusive urban environments.
AIFSC provides a platform for high-quality reviews, original research articles, and case studies that advance theory and practice in applying AI and data-driven technologies for sustainability. The journal welcomes contributions across, but not limited to, the following areas:
- AI for Energy Management and Smart Grids
- Intelligent Building Systems and Automation
- Sustainable Urban Planning and Design
- Machine Learning for Environmental Monitoring
- AI-driven Waste and Water Management
- Intelligent Transport and Mobility Systems
- AI in Construction, Materials, and Civil Engineering
- Robotics and Automation for Green Infrastructure
- Data Analytics for Climate and Resource Optimization
- Digital Twins and IoT for Sustainable Cities
- AI Governance, Ethics, and Policy in Smart Urban Systems
- AI for Disaster Prediction, Adaptation, and Resilience
- Edge Computing and Sensor Networks for Urban Systems
- Human-AI Collaboration for Sustainable Decision-Making
AIFSC aims to bridge the gap between academic research, engineering innovation, and urban policy, promoting dialogue among researchers, city planners, engineers, and policymakers. Contributions aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are particularly encouraged.
Publication Frequency
AIFSC is published online as a continuous volume throughout the year. Articles are made available as soon as they are accepted and typeset, ensuring rapid dissemination of research findings.
Special collections or thematic issues may be published periodically, curated by guest editors, to highlight emerging topics in AI and sustainable urban systems.
Open Access Policy
AIFSC operates under a Diamond Open Access model. All articles are freely available to read, download, and share immediately upon publication.
No article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees are applied, ensuring equitable participation for authors worldwide.
Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant third parties the right to use, reproduce, and distribute under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).
AIFSC supports open data practices. Authors are encouraged to deposit datasets and supplementary materials in recognized repositories (see datacite.org
or the Open Access Directory for recommended repositories).
